How do you know if a processor is faster?

assuming resembling you have infinite RAM (which is approaching impossible, but yeah), more Ghz makes your computer faster right? So when i look at ad, sometimes they don't put the GHz, is there a route to see how fast the computer is in need going online and checking out the processor?

How do you know if a processor is faster?

These days more GHZ does not translate into faster.

It used to, but not anymore.

New manufacturing processes, instruction sets, cache memory and memory bus are adjectives as important as the clock speed.

A Pentium 4 at 3.4ghz will not outperform a Core 2 Duo processor at 1.73ghz due to the design and extra Cache memory and to be exact strictly for single core processing.

Your best bet would be to compare the processors using this applet:

READ THE FINE PRINT OR GO TO A COMPUTER STORE OR LOOK UP THE CHIP ON LINE.
Find a website like www.tomshardware.com that compares them and have benchmarks
The processor will only do so much. It's responsible for the calculation and what not. RAM or memory is very celebrated for a faster computer. A decent processor today is probably 2-2.4GHz and up. There is also plentiful programs that do this.
I go to the techs to answer these question. http://www.cnet.com/

This is NOT a company trying to sell you product, but they make a contribution great advice (reviews) from relations who have already purchased the products.

in recent times ask for the price of the unit and you will know which one is faster..the expensive one is more probably the fastest and the best...i.e. if you don't wanna go online and sort further research about the processor...
